PRIMITIVE HEARTS AND STARS RAG QUILT

I love these two combination of turquoise flannel fabric match together. This one was a fun one to make. It is a twin size so that I have plenty to cuddle with on a cold winter day.
Be sure to applique each of you applique before you sew the blocks together. I however did not do that and had a harder time sewing on the applique because of this. My throat on my sewing machine is not overly large so I had to keep rolling and moving the blanket around.
APPLIQUE FIRST
Below is my pattern for this rag quilt ENJOY!!!
The squares are 9 1/2 x 91/2
Use 1/2 seam allowance
this is a 7 x 9 square pattern
Once you have the blanket all sewn together clip it every 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch depending on how much ragging you want. Wash and shave.
I found an AWESOME sweater shaver at Amazon.com that is electric and battery operated. It is also a much larger one that the traditional small ones I have used.
Hop on over to AMAZON to check out all the great sweater shavers. This is a must have tool for any rag quilter.

SPRING TIME RAG QUILT

I have made several rag quilts in the past year and am always AMAZED at how beautiful they truly are. You can take a color pallate that normally would not work well together and put them together in a rag quilt and they work perfectly together.

I found this great Maywood collection at Mardens and just new that
they would blend extremely well together.

PROJECT LINUS RAG QUILTS

These wonderful rag quilts have been made to donate to project Linus. Myself and some church ladies gathered at my home one afternoon and were able to sew together at least one rag quilt each. I then was able to trim and wash them all over the Christmas break. We have a drop off location here in Northern Maine that distributes them to the correct chapter.

I created a cute little poem & tag that gets attached to each rag quilts that is tied together with a matching ribbon.

I designed a new sew on label that is sewn in each bottom corner of each rag quilt.
This was created by first making my design in word and then printing it onto iron on transfer paper. It is then ironed on to twill tape. They make the perfect labels.

Each label has the verse Colossains 3:17

CHRISTMAS RAG QUILT

This beautiful Rag Quilt was made for the sewing gathering at my home today. We are making Rag Quilts for Project Linus.

Each one in attendance will have their name placed in a basket and at the end I will draw the winner of the rag quilt.

Just a simple way to say Thank you. I wish I could have made one for everyone but there just never is enough time.

COZY BLUE RAG QUILT

These warm blues make for a comfy and cozy rag quilt. The flannel Fabric was purchased at "Mardens for $3.99 a yard. That was such a great bargain.

This one was made for me to wrap up in on the very cold days here in Northern Maine. I have been making these for a couple years now and just think they are the perfect gift for any age.

This one was made with the instructions below.

I use Microsoft excel to design most of my quilts. It is the easiest program to use as you can import the actual picture of the fabric you want to use right into it and the cost is cheap as excel is FREE on most computers today.

JOHN DEERE RAG QUILT

Rag quilts are the new fad for all sewers alike. It is a fast and simple way to get a quilt done in a day. The raw edges gives it a primitive look with the way that it frays. The more you wash it the more it will fray.

This one little rag quilt was made for a special little fella who will use it to keep him nice and warm in all his travels.

This one was made with 100% cotton fabric for the top and back squares with 100% all natural batting in between.

COLORS OF FALL RAG QUILT

Can you say simply beautiful. This rag quil was made with the Maywood Studio Garden Theme Flannel fabric. I will have to be sure to get some more of this material. The colors are warm and cool all together. This warm and cozy rag quilt is just perfect to cuddle up with on a cool fall day.
To create this rag quilt I used my 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 square ruler. This makes the perfect size rag quilt. It is quick and easy using this size. I had this all cut out sewn clipped, washed and shaved all in one afternoon.
You can also choose to add another layer of flannel to give it more weight. I however choose not to add it as this one is for my sister in Florida.

BEAR & DEER RAG QUILT

I made this woodsy rag quilt for my sons birthday. With me making so many he wanted one but of course he had to be rustic looking.

I used my 6 x 24 quilting ruler and did each block 6 x 12. This was a very easy rag quilt to make.

ANOTHER GREAT MARDINS FIND

I just "LOVE, LOVE, LOVE" this Fabric Prints. I see Fish bowls and Butterfly's and that's just what I am going to make with it an Applique quilt with fishes and butterfly's.

The Fat quarter pack and jelly roll was bought from MARDINS. As you can see the price was an awesome deal for the fat quarter rolls @$5.99 and the jelly roll was $9.99. Now I will be designing a new child's quilt in the next week and will hopefully be sharing with you at the end of the month my design all finished.

Sunday, March 6, 2011

I have been working on this quilt in between all my other projects and was able to get the top part completed today. I now need to find coordinating fabric to match for the backing. I used two Jelly Rolls to complete this project. I sewed 4 strips together and then squared them off to an 8" square.

I also need to learn how to MACHINE QUILT.

I am wondering if any of you great QUILTERS can lead me to the best place on the web to learn how to machine quilt. I have a Janome 9700.

I practiced some today on a spare piece of material and batting and found it very hard so if there are any tips that fellow quilters can share PLEASE do :-).
