This is by far my most popular used crochet hat pattern that is shared and used on the net. I adapted the pattern slightly so that the scallop edge will fan out at the bottom. I added the button on the flower so that you can take the flower off.

This is for an ADULT size hat

Lion Brand Wool-ease thick & quick
or two strands of Red Heart 4ply yarn

Start with a magic
circle
Rnd 1) with color A work 8 hdc in circle
Rnd 2) ch1, 2 hdc in each stitch (16)
Rnd 3) ch1, 2 hdc in same stitch as joining, hdc
in next stitch, *2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next stitch* (repeat in between
from *to* to the end) (24)
Rnd 4) ch 1, 2 hdc in same stitch as joining, hdc
in next two stitches, *2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next two stitches* (repeat
*to end) (32)
Rnd 5) ch 1, 2 hdc in same stitch as joining, hdc
in next three stitches, *2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next three
stitches* (repeat *to end) (40)
Rnd 6) ch 1, 2 hdc in same stitch as joining, hdc
in next four stitches, *2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next four stitches* (repeat

Rnd 7 - 12) ch 1, hdc in same as joining, hdc in

13-14) Join color B, hdc in each stitch around.

Sew on a button that the flower will be attached to.
FLOWER
DIRECTIONS
Chain 3, join to first chain to form a ring. This will become the whole to attached the button.
FOUNDATION PETAL
1 -in the circle, Hdc chain 3, repeat hdc, chain 3 in the circle until you have
6 chain 3 spaces. join with a slip stitch to first hdc. pull circle tight to
close circle.
PETAL 1 - Slip
stitch into the first chain 3 space. Sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc in space. Repeat
for each chain 3 space. Join with a slip stitch to first sc.
FOUNDATION PETAL 2
- Sc around the post of the first hdc of the foundation row, chain 5, sc around
the post of the next hdc of the foundation row chain 5. Repeat around for 6
petals just like the first petal. join with a slip stitch to sc.
PETAL 2 - Sc into
chain 5 space and work hdc, dc, 3 Trc, dc, hdc, sc all in the chain 5 space.
Repeat foe each chain 5 space. join to first sc.
